“Into Us” A Collaborative Project in St Helens, UK

I’ve spent 5 days making a collaborative project at CGL (an amazing place to help people with drugs & alcohol addiction).
This place is located in St. Helens which is a city with high suicide rate in The UK. For me, working with people who are often stigmatized & marginalized is a really precious thing. I lost my words here, seeing how something empowering is what we need to get our life back!

During 5 days of workshop, I created my characters into huge pieces and asked people to paint, draw & write about their feelings & recovery process. I also specifically asked them to speak up about how they want to be treated in the community.

The characters that we’ve made are still in pieces. But we will put them together by using eyelets to make them moveable as a representation of our flexibility as a human.

Then show them to the world to send a message that whatever happened to our life, it doesn’t make us less human!

The result of this collaborative project will be exhibited in November 2019 at #TakeOverStHelens curated by @vacuumcleanerart and produced by @ourheartofglass along with some of my original paintings.
